Creating a custom scan

Manage this feature at: Menu ▸ Scan ▸ Analyse des virus ▸ Create custom scan

Instead of changing the settings of default scans you can create a new scan and define all the parameters.

Scan

In Scan Name enter a unique name for the scan. Below you can add a short description.

Scan areas

By default, all harddisks are scanned. To select a different area to be scanned open the drop-down menu in Scan areas. To remove an area select it in the list and click delete.

File types

You can choose to scan all files or only file types that are potentially suspicious based on either:

  • Content - Avast examines each file to determine file type. This option is safer but the scan takes longer.
  • Name extension - Only files with extensions such as "exe", "com", "bat" etc. are scanned. To add other file extensions click select additional areas, type the file extension in the box and click OK. To remove a file extension select it in the list and click delete.

You can further customize the scan in the tabs on the left.

If a custom scan is not needed anymore, you can delete it on the main Scan screen by clicking Delete scan next to its name.
