Passwords settings
Access this feature from: Menu ▸ Settings (gear icon) ▸ Passwords
In your Passwords settings, you can manage the following aspects of Passwords:
- Security: change your Main Password, and manage when and how often Avast prompts you for your Main Password.
- Synchronization: sync your Passwords settings with your Avast account so that you can use Passwords across all your devices.
- Browser Integration: select the internet browsers that you want to use Passwords with.
- Import Passwords: import any passwords that are stored in your browser or EasyPass.
Security
Complete the following steps, as necessary:
- Click Change Main Password to set or reset your Main Password.
- Click the bar on the graph that indicates how often you want to be prompted for your Main Password (On reboot, Once a week, Once a day, or Twice a day).
- Tick Lock password vault after closing internet browser if you want to restrict access to your list of passwords when you close your browser. When this box is ticked, Avast requests your Main Password each time you try to access your passwords when your browser is not open.
Synchronization
Click Sync now to synchronize the information stored in Passwords across all your devices using your Avast Account. This includes your passwords, notes, and autofill data. When synced, Passwords can manage your account logins and autofill web forms for you from each device that you register in your Avast Account.
Browser Integration
If you have not yet added the Passwords browser extension to all of your browsers, click Install under the browser name, and follow the prompts to add the extension to your browser. Once the extension is installed, Passwords can help manage your logins, and autofill online forms for you.
Import Passwords
Click Import next to the relevant option:
- Do you want to import passwords from your browser: to import passwords that are stored in your internet browsers.
- Do you want to import passwords from Avast EasyPass: to import passwords that are stored in EasyPass if you previously used this passwords manager.
After clicking Import, Avast takes you through the necessary steps to complete the action. When complete, your passwords are safely stored in your Avast Passwords' password vault which is much more secure than storing your passwords in your browsers. Once your passwords are safely stored in your password vault, we recommend that you delete them from your browsers.
To open Passwords, click the Passwords icon at the top of the main interface and select Overview, Passwords, or Secure notes.
