Your router is infected!

Your router has been compromised and your network connections are being routed through a malicious remote server.

Important:

Before trying to solve this problem, make sure to solve all other router problems detected by Avast. Otherwise the following fix will not be effective.

To configure Linksys/Cisco wireless router:


  1. From the Wi-Fi Security results screen, select Go to your router settings to open the administration page of your Linksys/Cisco router.
  2. Enter your router username and password, or contact the party who provided the router (e.g., your ISP).
  3. Go to SetupDDNS ▸ ensure that DDNS Service is Disabled.
    - or -
    Go to SecurityApps and GamingDDNS ▸ ensure that the Select provider option is set to Disabled.
  4. Go to SetupBasic SetupInternet Setup.
    - or -
    Go to ConnectivityInternet SettingsIPv4Type of Internet Connection ▸ select Edit.
  5. If your ISP supports automatic configuration:
    • Change Internet Connection Type, or Connection Type, to Automatic Configuration - DHCP.
    • Ensure that all DNS server records are blank, or set to 0.0.0.0, i.e. IP with zero values (this applies also for Static DNS records, if available, in the router's Local Network Setup when a local DHCP Server is Enabled).
    - otherwise -
    If your ISP doesn't support automatic configuration (e.g. Internet Connection Type, or Connection Type, is set to Static IP), fill in DNS server fields with IP addresses of reliable DNS servers, such as Google Public DNS, as shown below:
    Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
    Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
  6. Confirm your changes by selecting Save settings, or OK and reboot your router if necessary.
