Passwords - Settings
Manage these settings from: Privacy ▸ Passwords ▸ Settings
The Avast Passwords settings screen allows you to manage the following:
- Security: create or change your Master Password. You can then specify when and how often Passwords prompts you for your Master Password and enable One Touch Login (paid feature) to log into your online accounts using your mobile devices.
- Browser Integration: select the internet browsers that you want to use Passwords with.
- Sync & backup: synchronize the information stored in Passwords with your Avast Account so that you can use Passwords across all your devices.
- Import / export data: import passwords from your internet browser or Avast EasyPass (discontinued) or export passwords from Avast Passwords.
Adjust security settings
The Security section includes the following options:
- Create a Master Password: create a password to protect information you store in Passwords. Creating a Master Password allows you to manage other settings in the Security and Sync & backup sections.
- Change your Master Password: type your current password, then type and retype your new password. Tick the box next to the acknowledgement dialog, then click OK to confirm the change.
- Lock Avast Passwords after closing the app: tick to restrict access to Passwords when you exit the Passwords screen.
- Lock Avast Passwords after: tick to prompt for the Master Password after a time duration you specify using the drop-down menu.
- Lock Avast Passwords after closing your web browser: tick to restrict access to Passwords when you close your internet browser. It can take up to 30 seconds to lock your Passwords browser extension and Passwords screens in Avast Antivirus.
- One Touch Login: if you use Avast Ultimate or the paid version of Passwords, you can click Turn On to enable this feature. One Touch Login allows you to use your mobile devices to access Avast Passwords. Read more...
Note: To ensure your privacy, we do not store your Master Password locally or on any server. No one, including Avast representatives, can access or recover your Passwords data or reset your Master Password if you forget it.
Enable One Touch Login
One Touch Login allows you to use your Android or iOS mobile device to access Passwords installed on your PC. One Touch Login is only available in Avast Ultimate or the paid version of Passwords.
You can enable One Touch Login by pairing an Android or iOS device with your PC:
- Select Security from the left-side panel.
- Click Turn on under One Touch Login.
Note: This option requires you to create a Master Password. - Click Start now.
- Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials, or create a new account by clicking Register.
- Type your Master Password and click OK.
- Click OK, I'm ready to display the QR code on your PC.
- Download Avast Passwords on your Android (from Google Play Store) or iOS (from App Store) mobile device.
- Open Passwords on your Android or iOS mobile device, then follow the relevant steps:
- Android: go to Settings ▸ One Touch Login pairing, then tap Pair.
- iOS: go to Settings ▸ One Touch Login, then tap Scan QR code.
- Use your mobile device to scan the code that appears on the Passwords screen on your PC.
- Tap Done on your mobile device to complete the process.
After configuring One Touch Login, you can tap the notification that appears on your mobile device to access the Passwords screen or settings, as well as log into your online accounts.
To disable One Touch Login, click Turn off in the One Touch Login section from Privacy ▸ Passwords ▸ ☰ Menu ▸ Settings ▸ Security.
Install the Passwords browser extension
When your run Passwords for the first time, you are asked to install the Passwords extension in your internet browsers. If you skip this step, you can install the Passwords extension from the Browser Integration section:
- Select Browser Integration from the left-side panel.
- Click Install next to the relevant browser, then follow these steps according to the browser you selected:
- Google Chrome:
- Click Install.
- Click Add extension in the pop-up dialog.
- Mozilla Firefox:
- Click Install.
- Click Allow in the pop-up dialog.
- Click Add in the pop-up dialog.
- Google Chrome:
When the Passwords extension is successfully installed, a confirmation dialog appears with the text Installed.
Note: The Passwords extension is currently available for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Avast Secure Browser.
Synchronize your passwords
In the Sync & backup section, you can synchronize the information stored in Passwords across all your devices using your Avast Account. This information includes your passwords, notes, and autofill data. Synchronization also creates a backup of the data saved in Passwords.
To enable synchronization:
- Select Sync & backup from the left-side panel.
- Click Turn on.
Note: This option requires you to create a Master Password. - Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials, or create a new account by clicking Register.
- Type your Master Password and click OK.
- Follow the relevant step according to the device you want to synchronize:
- The first device: if this PC is the first device you want to synchronize, no further action is required. Your PC starts synchronizing Passwords data immediately. The Master Password set up for this PC is used for restoring a Passwords data backup for the whole group of synchronized devices, if needed.
- A subsequent device: the authorization request appears on your previously synchronized device(s). Click the confirmation button to authorize your new device and start synchronizing your Passwords data.
When the first device is synchronized, you receive a confirmation email (sent to the email address registered to your Avast Account) with the subject Your backup identity which includes instructions on how to restore your Passwords backup data. Read more...
To authorize further devices that you want to synchronize with Passwords, you can use the newly synchronized device. To disable synchronization, click Turn off.
Note: To ensure your privacy, we do not store your Master Password locally or on any server. Nobody, including Avast representatives, can access or recover your Passwords data or reset your Master Password if you forget it.
Import your passwords
You can import passwords stored in your internet browser or the Avast EasyPass (discontinued) password manager to Avast Passwords. To import your passwords:
- Select Import / export data from the left-side panel.
- Click Import next to the relevant option.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the action.
When complete, your passwords are safely stored in Passwords.
Note: Importing passwords does not automatically delete the passwords from your internet browser. We recommend you manually delete any saved passwords from your browser. For more details, refer to your browser documentation.
Export your passwords
To export passwords stored in Avast Passwords to a file or your internet browser:
- Select Import / export data from the left-side panel.
- Click Export next to the relevant option.
- Select a location to save the exported file and click Save.
Note: You cannot use a .csv file to restore your passwords back to Avast Passwords. To restore your Passwords data, use the restore link sent after enabling synchronization on your first device with Passwords. Read more...
Troubleshoot issues
Synchronization enables you to use Passwords on all of your devices and creates a backup of your password data. If you no longer have access to any of the previously synchronized devices that can authorize your new device, restore a backup of your password data:
- Install Avast Antivirus and set up Passwords on your PC.
- Locate the message from Avast Software with the subject Your backup identity sent to the email address connected to your Avast Account to enable synchronization.
- Click the Restore link in the email to open the authorization dialog.
- Click Start now, then type your Avast Account credentials if prompted.
- Type the Master Password for the first device you synchronized.
- Click Close to return to the main screen.
Your previously synchronized Passwords data appears on the Logins screen in Privacy ▸ Passwords.

Reset to defaults
If you forget Master Password, no one, including Avast representatives, can access or recover your Passwords data or reset your forgoten Master Password. Reseting Passwords component to defaults irreversibly deletes all your lost data and allows you to start over.
To reset Passwords to default settings:
- Go to Privacy ▸ Passwords.
- When prompted to enter your Master Password, click ☰ Menu ▸ Settings.
- Click Reset Avast Passwords and delete my data on the Avast Passwords settings screen.
- Click Delete to confirm and return to the Passwords screen.
- Click Get Started to start over.
