Passwords - Settings

The Security section allows you to manage Passwords security settings. Use the following options, as necessary:

Click Change Master Password to change your current Master Password:

1. Type your current password.
2. Type your new password.
3. Retype your new password.
4. Click OK to confirm your new Master Password.

Specify when you want to be prompted for Master Passwords:

• Click a bar on the graph to indicate how often you want to be prompted for your Master Password (On reboot, Once a week, Once a day, or Twice a day), and click OK to confirm your changes. By default, the On reboot bar is selected.
• Tick Lock Avast Passwords after closing internet browser if you want to restrict access to Passwords when you close your browser, and click OK to confirm your changes. It can take up to 30 seconds to lock your Passwords browser extension and Passwords screens in Avast Antivirus. This option is ticked by default.
• Click Lock Avast Passwords to set Passwords to prompt for the Master Password immediately.

You are be prompted for the Master Password when you try to access Passwords and its settings, or when you try to log in on a website using the Passwords extension in your browser. For example, when you select the On reboot option, you are not be asked for the Master Password immediately after your system starts, but only when you try to use Passwords.

Note: To ensure your privacy, we do not store your Master Password locally or on any server. This means that nobody, including Avast representatives, can access your stored passwords, and recover or reset your Master Password if you forget it.

One Touch Login allows you to use your Android or iOS mobile device to access Passwords installed on your PC. One Touch Login is only available as the paid feature of Avast Passwords.

You can enable One Touch Login by pairing an Android or iOS device with your PC. Follow these steps:

1. Click Turn on in the One Touch Login section.
2. Click Start now.
3. Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials, or create a new account by clicking Register.
4. Type your Master Password, and click OK.
5. Click OK, I'm ready to display the QR code on your PC.
6. Download Avast Passwords on your Android (from the Google Play Store) or iOS (from the App Store) mobile device.
7. Open Passwords on your Android or iOS mobile device, and follow the relevant steps:
   • Android: go to Settings ▸ One Touch Login pairing, and tap Pair.
   • iOS: go to Settings ▸ One Touch Login, and tap Scan QR code.
8. Scan the code that appears on Passwords on your PC using your mobile device.
9. Click Done on your mobile device to complete the process.

Once your PC and mobile device are paired, you can access the Passwords screen, settings or log in on a website using Passwords extension in your browser simply by tapping the notification on the paired mobile device, instead of typing your Master Password.

To disable One Touch Login, click Turn off in Passwords installed on your PC.

In the Synchronization section, you can synchronize the information stored in Passwords across all your devices using your Avast Account. This information includes your passwords, notes, and autofill data. Synchronization also creates a backup of the data saved in your Passwords.

Follow these steps to enable synchronization:

1. Click Turn on synchronization.
2. Log into Avast Account using your existing credentials, or create a new account by clicking Register.
3. Type your Master Password, and click OK.
4. Follow the relevant step according to the device you want to synchronize:
   • The first device: if this PC is the first device you want to synchronize, no further action is required. Your PC starts synchronizing Passwords data immediately. Master Password set up for this PC is used for restoring a Passwords data backup for the whole group of synchronized devices, if needed.
   • A subsequent device: the authorization request appears on your previously synchronized device(s). Click the confirmation button to authorize your new device and start synchronizing your Passwords data.

When the first device is synchronized, you will receive an email confirmation (on your email account registered to Avast Account) with the subject Your backup identity with instructions for restoring your Passwords data backup. Read more...

To authorize further devices that you want to synchronize with Passwords, you can use the newly synchronized device. To stop synchronization, click Turn off synchronization.

When your run Passwords for the first time, you are asked to install the Passwords extension onto your internet browsers. If you skipped this step, you can install the Passwords extension from the Browser Integration section, or from the Privacy ▸ Passwords screen.

In the Browser Integration section, click Install under a browser name, and follow these steps in your preferred browser:

• Google Chrome:
  1. Click Install.
  2. Click Add extension in the pop-up dialog. A confirmation screen shows that the extension was Installed.
• Mozilla Firefox:
  1. Click Install.
  2. Click Allow in the pop-up dialog.
  3. Click Install in the pop-up dialog. A confirmation screen shows that the extension was Installed.

Note: The Passwords extension is currently available for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and is included in Avast SafeZone Browser by default.

You can easily import passwords stored in your internet browser or the Avast EasyPass (discontinued) password manager to Avast Passwords. In the Import Passwords section, click Import next to the relevant option:

• Do you want to import passwords from your browser?: import passwords that are saved in an internet browser.
• Do you want to import passwords from Avast EasyPass?: import passwords that are stored in Avast EasyPass (discontinued) if you previously used this passwords manager.

After clicking Import, Avast takes you through the necessary steps to complete the action. When complete, your passwords are safely stored in Passwords.

Note: Importing passwords does not automatically delete them from your browser. When the import is complete, we recommend you manually delete any saved passwords from your browser. For more details, refer to your browser documentation.

If you need to export the passwords stored in Passwords to a file or your internet browser, in the Export Passwords section, click Export next to the relevant option:

• Do you want to export passwords to a .csv file?: export passwords to a standard .csv file that contains all passwords data separated with commas.
• Do you want to export passwords to Google Chrome?: export passwords to a .csv file to import them to your Google Chrome browser.
• Do you want to export passwords to Firefox?: export passwords to a .csv file to import them to your Mozilla Firefox browser.

After clicking Export, select a location to save the exported file and click Save.

Note: You cannot use a .csv file to restore your passwords back to Avast Passwords. To restore your Passwords data, use the restore link sent after enabling synchronization on your first device with Passwords. Read more...

Synchronization enables you to use your Passwords on all of your devices and creates a backup of your password data. If you no longer have access to any of the previously synchronized devices that can authorize your new device, restore a backup of your password data by following these steps:

1. Install Avast Antivirus and set up Passwords on your PC.
2. Locate the message from Avast Software with the subject Your backup identity, in the email account that you used for logging into Avast Account to enable synchronization.
3. Click the Restore link in the email to open the authorization dialog.
4. Click Start now, then type your Avast Account credentials if prompted.
5. Type your Master Password for your current PC.
6. Type your Master Password for your first device of the previously synchronized devices.
7. Click Close to return to the main screen.

Your previously synchronized Passwords data appears on the main Passwords screen in Privacy ▸ Passwords.
