Your router is infected!

Your router has been compromised and your network connections are being routed through a malicious remote server.

Important:

Before trying to solve this problem, make sure to solve all other router problems detected by Avast. Otherwise the following fix will not be effective.

To configure ZyXEL wireless router:


  1. From the Wi-Fi Security results screen, select Go to your router settings to open the administration page of your ZyXEL router.
  2. Enter your router username and password, or contact the party who provided the router (e.g., your ISP).
  3. Go to Expert ModeConfiguration (gear icon) ▸ NetworkDDNSGeneralDynamic DNS Setup ▸ ensure that the Enable Dynamic DNS is unchecked.
    - or -
    Go to NetworkDDNSGeneralDynamic DNS Setup ▸ ensure that the Enable Dynamic DNS is unchecked.
    - or -
    Go to AdvancedDynamic DNSDynamic DNSDynamic DNS Setup ▸ ensure that the Active Dynamic DNS is unchecked.
  4. Go to Expert ModeConfiguration (gear icon) ▸ NetworkWANInternet ConnectionWAN DNS Assignment.
    - or -
    Go to NetworkWANInternet ConnectionDNS Servers.
    - or -
    Go to NetworkWANInternet Access SetupDNS Servers.
  5. If your ISP supports automatic configuration
    • Change WAN IP Address Assignment to Get automatically from ISP (Default), or change IP Address to Obtain an IP Address Automatically, and for all three DNS server options select Obtained from ISP.
    • Ensure that all DNS server records are set to None (this applies also for static DNS records, if available in your router's LAN or DHCP settings when a local DHCP Server is Enabled).
    - otherwise -
    If your ISP doesn't support automatic configuration (e.g. WAN IP Address Assignment is set to Use Fixed IP Address, or IP Address is set to Static IP Address), for First and Second DNS server select User-Defined (for Third DNS server select None) and fill in IP addresses of reliable DNS servers, such as Google Public DNS, as shown below:
    First DNS Server (Primary): 8.8.8.8
    Second DNS Server (Secondary): 8.8.4.4
  6. Confirm your changes by selecting Apply and reboot your router if necessary.
